Scanning help

Place one UPC, EAN, or GTIN barcode inside the scanner frame in even light. If the camera is unavailable or the label will not scan, open Scan, choose Enter barcode manually, and type the digits printed below the barcode.

The app uses the camera only to recognize a barcode. It does not save or upload camera frames.

Alert help

Remote alerts require:

  1. Notification permission in iOS Settings.
  2. An internet connection.
  3. Remote nationwide monitoring enabled under Coverage.
  4. A successful service sync shown in the app.

Recall publication and notification delivery are not guaranteed to be real time. A notice may omit a barcode, and a barcode alone rarely proves that a particular lot is affected. Always open the official notice and compare the product, package, lot, date, establishment number, and distribution details.

Removing data

See the Is My Food Recalled? privacy policy for complete retention details.

Ads and subscription help

The free version shows a small banner at the bottom of My Foods and Recalls. Ads never appear beside a scan result or a possible match, and every recall check is free with or without a subscription.

Food safety help

The app reports possible matches. It is not a government service, an emergency service, or a determination that food is safe or recalled. Follow the linked official notice and contact the manufacturer or the responsible government agency for product-specific instructions.
